Why it matters:
Maduro’s remarks mark one of the most forceful condemnations of Israel’s recent actions by a head of state outside the Middle East, deepening the global divide over Tel Aviv’s escalating military confrontations with regional actors, particularly Iran.
What he's saying:
Speaking on Friday, Maduro condemned what he described as the "criminal aggression" of Israel against Iran and accused the global community, especially the United Nations, of remaining silent in the face of “violent and inhumane acts” by Israel. He blamed Netanyahu directly for the deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians—including women and children—and said:
“Western countries have armed him, funded him, and handed him missiles to commit these atrocities.”
Maduro further accused Western powers of fueling instability in the Middle East and questioned their stance on Israel’s latest attacks on Iran.
“What are Berlin, Paris, and Washington saying about the Zionist regime’s recent aggression against Iran? Will they continue cheering on the Hitler of the 21st century in his crimes against the noble and peace-loving people of Iran?”
He called for international Jewish communities, particularly within Israel, to oppose Netanyahu’s “war-driven madness,” warning:
“Where will all this violence and hatred lead? Do they think missiles and bombs will bend the will of the world’s people?”
Key points:
- Maduro labeled Netanyahu as “Hitler of the 21st century.”
- He condemned Israel’s military attacks on Iran as “criminal.”
Go deeper:
The comments come just one day after a major Israeli airstrike on Tehran and other Iranian cities on June 13, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of several Iranian military commanders, scientists, and civilians. In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader issued a public message declaring that: “The regime must await severe punishment. The powerful hand of the Islamic Republic’s armed forces will not let them go unpunished, God willing.”
