Why it matters:
The Israeli strike killed multiple military commanders, scientists, and civilians, including women and children. While no radiation leak was reported, the assault on one of Iran’s most sensitive nuclear sites has triggered both national outrage and international scrutiny.
The attack marks a dangerous escalation by the Israeli regime, this time involving a direct hit on a major nuclear facility.
The big picture:
The Shahid Ahmadi Roshan Nuclear Complex (Natanz) was attacked by Israel, though no casualties among staff or radiation leakage were reported.
Israeli strikes hit locations across multiple provinces, including Tehran, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Khorramabad, and Boroujerd.
Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the IRGC, Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri, along with several Iranian nuclear scientists, were martyred in the strikes. Civilian casualties included children.
Flights at Imam Khomeini International Airport and several others were suspended.
What the Atomic Energy Organization said:
“The Zionist regime carried out a barbaric and unlawful assault on residential areas, martyring military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians, including women and children.”
“After an attack on the Shahid Ahmadi Roshan Nuclear Complex, assessment is ongoing, but no radiation or chemical leakage beyond the site has occurred.”
Despite repeated letters to Director General Rafael Grossi over the past two years warning of Israeli threats, no action has been taken, even after this latest attack. The agency has lost credibility, acting on falsified Israeli intelligence and abandoning its neutrality.”
“These attacks, military and political, will not break the resolve of our scientists and specialists. On the contrary, they will continue their mission with doubled motivation to advance Iran’s peaceful nuclear industry.”
