Israeli forces launched strikes on Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Al Hudaydah on Tuesday, according to Yemen’s Al Masirah TV and confirmed by Al Jazeera, which reported involvement by the Israeli Navy.

Why it matters:

The Israeli regime has conducted several aggressions targeting Yemeni territory since the start of its genocide in Gaza in late 2023.

The big picture:

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, which controls Al Hudaydah, has been enforcing a naval blockade in the Red Sea targeting Israel-linked vessels in support of the oppressed Palestinians under the Israeli siege and genocide in Gaza. It has conducted numerous drone and missile attacks on Israeli positions in solidarity with Palestinians as part of a broader Axis of Resistance strategy.

Yemeni Armed Forces have vowed to continue their operations until the Israeli regime ends its ground and aerial offensives in Gaza.

Over 54,000 Palestinians — most of them women and children — have been killed since the Israeli genocide began in October 2023.

What the Israeli military spokesman is saying:

The attack was carried out in response to the Houthis' aggression against Israel.

The attack aims to deepen the damage to the port of Hudayda.

Key point:

  • The recent attack on Yemen and Hudaydah is the first case in which the Israeli Navy has been involved.

Go deeper:

In response to the Yemeni army's support for Palestine, the Zionist regime has repeatedly targeted the country's infrastructure in its attacks.
