Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations calling the unilateral sanctions against Syria illegal, inhumane and doomed to failure, stated that US forces are continuing to plunder Syria's oil and wealth as they continue to occupy Syrian territory.

Iran Press/America: Majid Takht-Ravanchi at a UN Security Council meeting on Syria on Wednesday, added: "Occupying parts of Syria under the guise of fighting terrorism, US forces are supporting some terrorist groups such as Jabhat al-Nusra (Tahrir al-Sham) and are looting the oil and wealth of the Syrian people."

Majid Takht-Ravanchi stressed the need for respecting the Syrian government's sovereignty and called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces in the country which are present without the official permission of the government.

While stressing that the Golan Heights has been and will be part of Syria, Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations condemned the Israeli attack on Syria and called the occupation of the Golan Heights illegal, adding that the recent provocative visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the region was a step to legitimize its annexation to Israel.

Iranian envoy to the UN stressed the need for a continuous fight against terrorists in Syria in order to eliminate the root of their threat and emphasizing that any separatist efforts in the country must be opposed.

Majid Takht-Ravanchi noting that some countries are seeking to prolong the Syrian crisis by imposing unilateral sanctions on Damascus and imposing their offer on its people, added that while the Syrian people are under intense pressure from the conflict and the spread of the coronavirus in the country, the imposition of unilateral US sanctions will increase the suffering of the Syrians.

Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations welcomed efforts such as the UN to resolve the crisis politically and noted Iran's efforts to help. He said that in parallel with this process, the necessary support should be provided for the reconstruction of Syria, as well as the return of Syrian refugees and displaced people. 219
