A specialized meeting of traditional medicine was held at the 5th International Congress of the World Network of Education and Scientific Research (USERN 2020) with the speeches of prominent Iranian and foreign researchers.

Iran PressIran news: The meeting was held in two sections on "Traditional Medicine and Society" and "The Role of Traditional Medicine in Integrating Sciences".

In the first part, Dr. Roy Upton, President of the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia, referring to the roots of traditional medicine in Iran, China, and other pioneering countries in this field, said that COVID-19, like the SARS outbreak crisis, led to hundreds of thousands of deaths in the United States and causes problems for this country. But in China, the use of Chinese medicine alongside conventional medicine has improved a high percentage of patients.

He compared the performance of Western and traditional medicine and the mortality rate in China before and after the integration of Chinese medicine to fight the coronavirus, adding, "In traditional medicine, the therapeutic approach is determined on the basis of each person, while in Western medicine, the treatment of the disease is considered instead of treating the patient."

 

The word "quarantine" in 2020 originated from Avicenna

Dr. Amina Ather, a member of the European Medical Association, commented on Avicenna and his thoughts, saying that the source of the popular word quarantine in 2020 is from Ibn Sina, also known as Abu Ali Sina, Pur Sina, and often known in the West as Avicenna.

She said: Ibn Sina, in order to prevent the transmission of some infectious diseases from one person to another, proposed a method for 40-day quarantine of the people.

 

Iran is an important country in the field of ethnopharmacology

Dr. "Arman Zargaran", Assistant Professor of Traditional Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, said in a speech: "Iran is a vast country with historical roots and ancient medicine and has more than eight thousand plant species and therefore is one of the most important countries in the field of ethnopharmacology and it has many study opportunities for research in this field."

 

In the second part of the meeting on "The role of traditional medicine in the integration of science", Dr. "Mohammad Reza Shams Ardakani", an associate member of the Academy of Medical Sciences and professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, said: "The use of traditional medicine approaches is expanding around the world, both in developed and underdeveloped countries."

He said: "Different types of traditional medicine are considered as a powerful arm of health care systems in different countries."

Referring to the report of the World Health Organization in this regard, he added: "170 member countries of this international organization have recognized the use of traditional, complementary and integrated medicine and the World Health Organization has encouraged its member countries to promote the use of traditional medicine and integrate services.

 

The basics of traditional Iranian medicine are a combination of ontology and epistemology

Dr. "Mehrdad Karimi", a professor at the Faculty of Iranian Medicine of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, evaluated traditional Iranian medicine based on the structure of scientific developments and said: "Iranian traditional medicine system consists of two theoretical and practical parts, each of which consists of several components and each component has its own subset."

The Fifth International Congress of the World Network for Education and Scientific Research (USERN 2020) hosted by Tehran University of Medical Sciences held in a hybrid form (face-to-face and virtual) with full observance of health protocols.

The scientific event was enriched with scientific lectures and workshops delivered by the top 1 percent expert scientists, in addition to the International Festival of Paintings for Pediatric Patients (IFPPP), and Miniature Talk (mTalk).

USERN has been established with the main purpose of peaceful and humanitarian promotion of education and research.

There are more than 350 top scientists, including fifteen Nobel/Abel Laureates, among the advisory board members of USERN.

“More than 14,000 people had been nominated for the 2020 USERN Prize.

In this international conference, out of a total of 10 selected candidates, one person in each field was introduced as the top 1 percent of scientists and Nobel Prize winners.

In the last four years, USERN has undertaken valuable activities including holding more than 500 scientific events, writing 800 articles, forming 90 interdisciplinary departments, signing international agreements, establishing domestic and foreign offices.

USERN, the official acronym of Universal Scientific Education and Research Network, is a non-governmental network for peaceful non-military scientific executions and policy-making.

Established in 2016, USERN is organized exclusively for the advancement of authentic, ethical, and professional scientific research and education and consequently advancement of science for non-military purposes and the public good.

USERN Prize has been also established in order to identify the most talented qualified junior scientists in all areas of science, who have devoted their time to science promotion and performed outstanding scientific projects so far. The bests in each field will be awarded each year to be distinguished to the scientific world and to be acknowledged for their humanitarian efforts.
