Islamabad (IP) - Emphasizing the special importance of his country's relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the prime minister of Pakistan stressed the need to strengthen regional cooperation, especially trade and economic relations between Iran and Pakistan.

Iran Press/Asia: The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan made the remarks on Wednesday at a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Pakistan have close relations.

The Pakistani prime minister stressed the importance of strengthening relations with Iran and developing bilateral cooperation to achieve mutual benefits, noting that trade and economic relations between the two countries should be further strengthened.

He also expressed his condolences to Zarif, the government, and the people of Iran for the loss of lives in Iran due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Imran Khan stressed the need for close cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad to promote peace, security and development in the region, highlighting: "Pakistan's efforts to help advance the Afghan peace process continue and we believe that Afghanistan has no military solution."

"Peace in Afghanistan will be beneficial for the whole region because it creates new opportunities for trade and economic cooperation as well as regional ties," he said.

The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is eager to work closely with the Imran Khan government to expand relations between the two countries, Mohammad Javad Zarif said for his part.

Zarif also stressed Iran's strong support for the Kashmir issue.

The two sides also called for confronting Islamophobia, working together to help resolve the Islamic world's problems, and strengthening bilateral relations.

During his two-day visit to Pakistan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran met General Qamar Javed Bajwa, chief of Pakistan's army staff, and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, minister of foreign affairs of Pakistan.
