Tehran (IP) - Special representative of the UN secretary-general for Afghanistan affairs appreciated Iran's constructive role in contributing to Afghanistan’s peace talks.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an interview with Iran Press on Sunday, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Afghanistan Affairs and the head of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Deborah Lyons said Iran feels very reinforced and very much like UNAMA and UN to have a strong partner to bring about a peaceful future for the Afghan people.

In a recent incident on Monday, three armed ISIS terrorists stormed Afghanistan’s main state university in western Kabul.

The attack has angered all in Afghanistan. Afghan people protested to show their anger at the rise of violence and bloodshed in Afghanistan, mainly over the last two weeks.

The Taliban militant group is engaged in peace talks in Qatar with the Afghan government to end nearly two decades of war in the country.

The intra-Afghan talks began in the wake of a deal between the United States and the Taliban earlier this year in Doha.

Under the deal, Washington promised to pull out all its troops by mid-2021 in return for the Taliban to stop their attacks on US-led occupation foreign forces in Afghanistan.

The US-led war in Afghanistan has since reportedly killed more than 150,000 people, including local security forces, civilians, insurgents, and foreign troops. Thousands of US soldiers and their allies have also been killed.
