Iran Press/ Europe: "We have not taken revenge for him yet. As one of our friends has said, our missile strike on the Ayn al Assad military base was just retribution for the Soleimani’s destroyed car. But we have not yet avenged his death," Kazem Jalali said.

The Iranian diplomat noted that Tehran believes that "the US has committed a very grave crime" by killing a man who "heroically fought terrorists in the region."

General Soleimani, the late commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), and a number of his companions were assassinated in an airstrike by US aggressors and terrorists near the airport in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on the morning of Friday, January 3, 2020.  In response, on January 8, Tehran fired missiles at two installations in Iraq used by the US military - the Ayn al-Assad base and the Erbil airport.

Lieutenant General Soleimani had traveled to Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government.

Many countries and international organizations have condemned this terrorist act by the United States.

In a recent report, UN Special Rapporteur Agnès Callamard described the US terrorist plot to assassinate General Soleimani as a violation of international law and the UN Charter.

Martyred Lieutenant General Soleimani was a prominent figure in the fight against takfiri and terrorist groups, including ISIS, in the West Asian region.
