Tehran (IP) - The head of the Iranian Karate League Organisation said that Iran is seeking to complete its quota to participate in the Tokyo Olympics and has high hopes to take part in a full team.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Monday on the sidelines of the international kata competitions of Iran's Karate Federation held virtually, Abolqasem Paidar said currently, Iranian karate has 2 quotas in the men's section and 2 others in the women's, and the men and women's national karate teams will continue to compete to win more quotas.

Paidar said in the World Karate Championships, Iran succeeded in becoming the world team champion for the third time, and in recent years, it has either been a champion or a runner-up in Asia.

He highlighted that Iranian karatekas have always won one of the first to third place in world competitions and leagues, which shows the high power and capacity of Iranian karate.

The honors of Iranian karate in recent years in the Asian and world arenas promise a good and bright future in the Tokyo Olympics, the head of the Iranian Karate League Organisation said.

Iran holds karate competitions virtually

The secretary of the Karate Federation of Iran said that holding virtual competitions has been welcomed by the karatekas.

In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on the sidelines of the International Karate Federation's virtual kata competitions on Monday, Vahid Momeni stated that in this competition, which is held virtually and through sending videos due to the spread of the coronavirus, there are 41 teams in the men's section and 122 teams in the women's section.

Vahid Momeni added that the Iranian Karate Super League will also be held by observing health protocols, and the training camps of the national men's and women's karate teams will also be held in accordance with social distancing and other health protocols.
