UNSC to hold closed consultations over Nagorno-Karabakh on September 29

The UN Security Council is planning to convene on Monday, for urgent closed-door consultations over the recent escalation of the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh

Iran PressAmerica: The meeting will be held at the request of France, Russia, and the United States, members of the Minsk Group to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis.

The Nagorno-Karabakh clashes broke out on September 27, re-igniting a decades-old conflict between the ex-Soviet neighbors over Karabakh and threatening to draw in regional powers Russia and Turkey.

The conflict between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which belongs to the Republic of Azerbaijan, began in 1988. It escalated into a military war in 1992.
