Tehran (IP) - A national system for monitoring energy consumption in buildings, inaugurated during a ceremony by the attendance of officials at the Road, Housing, and Urban Development Research Center.

Iran PressIran News: Tehran’s mayor, Pirouz Hanachi, in the ceremony regarding the Optimization of energy consumption importance, said that every day something equal to 300,000 barrels of oil energy wasted in buildings across the country, which is a considerable waste.

He also referred to the municipality’s programs to reduce energy consumption and waste in business and state buildings, saying we can not increase Energy-carrier's price due to economic conditions.

"Electronic buses and taxies, developing bicycles path and sidewalks, and using clean fuel are among the municipality’s programs for energy management," Tehran's mayor stressed.

The representative of the United Nations Development Program in Iran, Claudio Providas as a participant in the ceremony pointed to changes in consumption patterns and said that it has changed in recent years due to urbanism.

He also said that environmental concerns have always been on our agenda, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will not stop its aids in Iran.

Iran can be a sample for the region and world in optimal consumption of energy, he concluded.
