Tehran (IP)- In response to sanctions imposed on 18 Iranian banks and financial institutions by the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, the spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry in his tweet stated that the US would fail once again.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh in this tweet on Thursday night added: "Frustrated by humiliating failures and futility of "maximum pressure", supporters of Israeli regime Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lure Trump into doubling down on inhumane sanctions targeting of ordinary Iranians."

"The same group has been gambling for the past four years without regard to US interests and credibility," Khatibzadeh said.

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: "They will fail once again."

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also condemned new US sanctions against a number of Iranian banks.

The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against 18 Iranian banks on Thursday evening (Tehran time).

Following its illegal withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018, the United States has launched a comprehensive campaign to put pressure on Iran.

Washington has said the goal of the "maximum pressure campaign" against Iran is to reach a new agreement with Tehran that addresses all issues that the US is concerned about.

The move by President Donald Trump's administration has drawn widespread domestic and international condemnation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a key member of the Resistance Front, has a key role to play in countering US-Zionist conspiracies and actions in the region.
