Majid Takht Rarvanchi

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations has called for a balanced, full, and non-discriminatory implementation of the ban on the use of chemical weapons, saying that in recent years the process has been misused against the Syrian government with baseless allegations.

Iran PressAmerica: "Iran, as a major victim of chemical weapons in contemporary history, strongly condemns the use of these weapons by anyone, in any place, and under any circumstances," Majid Takht Rarvanchi added at the UN Security Council meeting on the issue of the use of chemical weapons in Syria on Monday evening.

Takht Rarvanchi noted: "Iran also reiterates its call for the balanced, complete and non-discriminatory implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and the maintenance of the authority of the relevant organization."

Takht Rarvanchi added: "These facts are now being ignored, as well as the Syrian government's significant cooperation to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations, including the submission of more than 80 monthly reports and a wealth of information."

Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations considered these measures to have negative implications for the full and effective realization of the main goal of the non-proliferation of chemical weapons.

Takht Rarvanchi stated: "To prevent this situation, the current process in this council and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which started only on the basis of the goals of some countries with political motives, should be stopped."
