Iran Press/ Iran News: "Discoveries of narcotics in Iran mounted to 565,000 kilograms, which has increased by 35% compared to last year," Iranian deputy police chief for combating drugs noted.
Majid Karimi highlighted that in Afghanistan, amphetamine and narcotics production has increased, which are distributed by ships around the world.
Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Counter-Narcotics Police Chiefs Meeting, he added that the Islamic Republic of Iran had discovered 90% of opium, 48% morphine, and 28% heroin of the world.
"In this meeting, the effect of COVID-19 on the drug supply chain and drug trafficking was discussed. It is said that drug trafficking has reduced, and the trafficking of cocaine via land routes has increased," he highlighted.
The Asia-Pacific Counter-Narcotics Police Chiefs Meeting opened today in Tehran via video conference by focusing on counter-narcotics.
"The meeting was headed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to discuss situations in various countries, including Iran's anti-narcotic measures," the official said.
Another meeting will be held on 2nd October from 8 am to 5 pm to present countries' reports to take action against narcotics, Karimi underlined. 207
