Shiraz (IP) - Samen-ul-A'emeh-99 military drills were held in Fars province, southern Iran on the occasion of the anniversary of the defeat of Abadan siege.

Iran Press/Iran News: Samen ul-A'meh-99 military drills were held by Iran’s Army ground units in Fars province on Sunday in the "Siyakh Darengun" area, 50 km from the Shiraz-Bushehr road.

Samen-ul-A'emeh was the name of an operation by the Iranian armed forces during the Iran-Iraq war, which was carried out under the command of the Iranian Army and with the participation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps against the positions of Iraqi army units in Khuzestan province.

The operation began at one o'clock in the morning on October 27, 1981, in southwestern Iran, and ended after 42 hours of hard fighting with the breaking of the siege of Abadan and the recapture of more than 150 square kilometers of Iranian territory.

The main responsibility for Operation Samen-ul-A'emeh was with the 77th Khorasan Division, and a total of more than 35 battalions of Iranian forces participated in this operation against the forces of Saddam's Ba'athist regime.
