Iran Press/Iran News: In an interview with Iran Press News Agency in Mashad, Brigadier General Reza Azarian said: "If the country had not been defended during the eight years of war against Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein (began on 22 September 1980, ending on 20 August 1988 ), the current situation might not have existed."
The commander added: "Today, Iran is facing very special conditions in the region and efforts are being made to place deterrence in a level that the enemies are not able to confront the Islamic Republic of Iran."
The commander also noted, nowadays resistance requires the national unity among the people, the armed forces, the government, as well as the implementation of the order of the Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
