US ambassador to the United Nations rejected the secretary-general's negative reaction to the return of sanctions on Iran as disappointing.

Iran PressAmerica: Members of the UN Security Council have repeatedly stated their opposition to the US use of the so-called trigger mechanism.

"I respect the Secretary-General, but I was very disappointed. His letter is just a reaction to the inaction of the other 13 members of the Security Council," Kelly Craft said.

In 2015, Iran signed the JCPOA with China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. It required Iran to scale back its nuclear program and severely downgrade its uranium reserves in exchange for sanctions relief, including lifting the arms embargo five years after the deal's adoption. In 2018, the United States withdrew from the JCPOA and implemented hard-line policies against Tehran.
