Swiss FM: I’m in Iran to strengthen ties, build trust

Tehran (IP) - Swiss Foreign Minister stated that the purpose of his visit to Iran and meeting with Iranian officials is to strengthen bilateral relations and build trust.

Iran Press/Iran news: "The purpose of this trip is to strengthen Iran-Switzerland relations," Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, who has been in Iran since Saturday, told Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) and stressed that the trip is to build trust for the bilateral path between Switzerland and Iran and for the protection of interests as a mediator between the United States and Iran.

Explaining Switzerland's role in the midst of tensions between Iran and the United States, he stressed: "You can make mistakes in life, and that is part of it. However, two things must be avoided: The first is to have high expectations because the world changes, but humans do not change in five minutes. The second is to take actions that destroy trust.”

"Switzerland's role in Iran-US relations has been very good so far," Cassis said. "We celebrated the 100th anniversary of Swiss-Iranian diplomatic relations. This hundred years of diplomacy came after an agreement called 'Trade and Peace', and today, a century later, it is still based on trade and peace.
