Iran and Venezuela are at top of US priorities: US Department of State

Explaining the appointment of Elliott Abrams as the new US Special Envoy for Iran, the State Department said that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Venezuela are among the top priorities of US foreign policy.

Iran PressAmerica: "Iran and Venezuela are still at the top of the State Department and the White House priorities," said Cale Brown, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.

Brian Hook, the US government's special envoy for Iran, resigned on Thursday.

Brian Hook's departure from the White House came after he failed to achieve Trump's anti-Iranian goals as part of Washington's campaign of maximum pressure on Tehran.

Elliott Abrams, who was elected US Special Representative for Venezuela in 2019, has so far failed to implement Trump's anti-Venezuelan policies. He will now retain this position in addition to his new position as the new US Special Envoy for Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Venezuela, as two independent states, have always stood up to Washington's hegemonic policies and actions.
