Urmia (IP) - The Iranian Red Crescent Society has done various efforts to curb the coronavirus outbreak in 17 cities of West Azerbaijan Province, northwestern Iran.

Iran Press/Iran News: The Deputy Head of the Red Crescent Society of West Azerbaijan Province Mohammad Reza Taqizadeh announced the implementation of the project 'Rescue Ship' in 17 cities of the province with the aim of preventing an increase in the number of people with COVID-19.

In an interview with Iran Press in Urmia, Taqizadeh said that the project is aimed at preventing the coronavirus outbreak, informing people to wear masks and to follow health protocols, and other necessary warnings.

The Deputy Head of the Red Crescent Society of West Azerbaijan added that in the framework of the project, free masks are being distributed by 400 volunteers of the Society among the people of West Azerbaijan Province.

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, the use of masks reduces the transmission of coronavirus by 85%, the observation of a physical distancing of one meter by 82%, and the use of eye protection by 78%.

The latest statistics provided by the Ministry of Health shows that so far, 281,413 people in the country have been infected with the coronavirus, and 244,840 of the total infected people have recovered and got discharged.
