Afghanistan sends 1st transit cargo to China from Iran\'s Chabahar

Sistan and Baluchestan (IP) -The first transit cargo of Afghanistan carrying dried fruits were sent to the Tianjin port of China from Iran's Shahid Beheshti port of Chabahar.

Iran Press/Asia: The Director-General of Ports and Maritime Affairs of Sistan and Baluchestan, southeast of Iran, on Sunday said that the cargo was shipped from Chabahar port to the Indian port of Mondrai, after which it will be transferred to the destination in China.

Behrouz Aghaei referred to the impact of the coronavirus Pandemic on the world economy, and said with gaining importance the index of sending three ships of Afghan transit goods to India in one month, another record is set in Chabahar port.

The Iranian maritime official asserted that Chabahar's Shahid Beheshti Port with its regular transit services has taken great steps in facilitating trade between Central Asian countries, Afghanistan with countries in South, Southeast Asia, and the Far East.

According to Aghaei, in the past, Afghan goods were sent to various countries through Karachi Port, Pakistan to the different countries.

Due to the suitable infrastructure and good services provided by Iran's Chabahar Port, traders and owners of goods in Afghanistan showed a tendency to use this strategic port to transfer their cargo to their destinations from Iran.

The caretaker of the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Trade, Hossein Modarres Khiabani said at a meeting of the Sistan and Baluchestan Economic Working Group in Chabahar on Friday (July 10) that Chabahar Port will soon become the third commercial hub of Iran due to its infrastructure, capacities, and strategic position and will be located next to Bandar Abbas and Imam Port.

The port of Chabahar in southeastern Iran is of great importance to India due to its strategic location and closest access to landlocked Central Asian countries such as Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan.

Chabahar port, with its 300 km water border in the Oman Sea as the only ocean ports in Iran, outside the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz on the shores of the Makran Sea (Oman), has a very important role in developing trade, export, and import of goods and fishing.
