A few days prior to the blessed fasting month of Ramadan, Muslims get into the ritual of cleaning and dusting community mosques, to welcome the holy month.

Before the arrival of Ramadan, young people in Abadan, Iran, clean the dome of a mosque.

As cleaning is highly stressed in Islam, cleaning religious centers and mosques begins around 10 days prior to Ramadan. Community members pitch in washing rugs, cleaning the walls with rose water to have their sacred place prepared for the fasting month.

The month of Ramadan is highly regarded among Muslims and is seen as a special time for renewing bonds with Allah as well as promoting the spirit of close cooperation in the community.

It doesn’t matter which part of the world it is, Muslims everywhere eagerly wait and meticulously prepare for Ramadan. All month, there are elaborate Iftar and Suhur where families get together to eat and pray, to remember God Almighty and to cherish togetherness and sharing.
