UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions Agnès Callamard said that the United States has failed to provide sufficient evidence to substantiate its claims that the former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani was an imminent threat.

Iran PressAmerica: Callamard said in a report that the US drone strike that led to the assassination of Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani was unlawful, and a violation of the UN Charter.

"The world is at a critical juncture and a possible turning point in the use of drones. However, the UN Security Council has not taken any action and the international community, consciously or unconsciously, has remained silent," she told Reuters.

Callamard is scheduled to present her report to the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday.

The late Commander of Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGCLieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, who had traveled to Iraq on the official invitation of the Iraqi officials, was assassinated by the US drone attack in Baghdad on January 3, 2020, along with the second-in-command of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis as well as eight companions.

On 8 2020, in response to the terrorist act of assassinating Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and Mahdi Abu Muhandis and their companions, Islamic Revolution Guard Corps fired missiles at Ain al-Assad US airbase in Iraq.
