The US State Department has also issued an advisory on the anticipated opening of the Rafah Crossing in the southern Gaza Strip, saying that the situation at the border gate “will remain fluid and unpredictable”.
In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, the US said it is “unclear” how long the travelers will be permitted to transit the crossing by Egypt.
“If you assess it to be safe, you may wish to move closer to the Rafah border crossing – there may be very little notice if the crossing opens and it may only open for a limited time.”
Earlier, it was announced that the border crossing would open at 0600 GMT (9 a.m. in the Palestinian territories and Israel) on Monday, to allow foreigners, including at least 600 Americans to pass through.
A vast majority of the 2.3 million Palestinians living in Gaza are barred from crossing the border gate despite safety threats due to the ongoing Israeli bombardment.
The United Nations Humanitarian Office (OCHA) has warned Gaza hospitals’ last reserves of fuel will probably run out within the next 24 hours.
Amid continuing Israeli bombing of Gaza, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has said Israeli raids have created an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe”.
