The Indian Shias participated in the Ashura day mourning rituals while carrying out flags with Ashura themes.
Chholas Sadat is a village located at 40 km from New Delhi in Uttar Pradesh State.
Most Indian Shia Muslims live in the village; With the beginning of Muharram month, the village is dressed in black and gets mournful for Imam Hussain (AS).
The mourning reaches its peak on Ashura Day when the people take to the streets and form mourning groups until a part of the night while chanting elegies and beating their chests to show their grief.
Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram which marks the day when Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions were martyred at the Battle of Karbala.
The day of Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram in the Lunar Hijri calendar. This day is significant for Shia due to what occurred in Karbala on this day in the year 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE).
On that day, Imam Hussain (PBUH) and his true companions were martyred in the battle against the Kufa army led by Umar ibn Saad.
