Iran Press/ Iran News: Tens of thousands of people performing the mourning ritual in commemoration of Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom two days before Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram.
Among Muslims especially Shia, Ashura is observed through large demonstrations of high-scale mourning as it marks the death of Husayn ibn Ali, who was martyred during the Battle of Karbala.
Two days before Ashuram people in Zanjan on Wednesday evening hold a rally in the streets while mourning and chanting elegies while condemning the recent desecration of the holy Quran in some European countries. This ritual will last until the night.

The tenth of Muharram is the anniversary of the martyrdom of the younger grandson of Prophet Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny), the Chief of Martyrs Imam Hussein (AS).
He was martyred on the same day in the year 61 A.H., at the age of 57, in the desert of Karbala, in southern Iraq.
In the Battle of Karbala, Imam Hussain fought against an army from Kufa on Muharram 10, 61(October 10, 680 ), who were mercenary soldiers of tyrant Yazid ibn Mu'awiya, the second Umayyad caliph.
