A powerful explosion occurred in one of the chemical plants in China's Jiangxi province. Although there was no official confirmation about the fatalities, media reports cited emergency services and asserted many people were feared dead in the tragic incident.

Iran press/ Asia: According to CCTV, the blast occurred at the Qiantai New Material Co facility in the city of Jiujiang. The plant produces chemicals for the textile and paper industries, such as hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide.

The local authorities have mobilized an emergency response team, including firefighters, police, and environmental protection officials, to deal with the aftermath of the blast.

The Jiujiang municipal government said on its official Weibo account that it had launched an emergency plan to evacuate nearby residents and control traffic in the area.

It also said it had dispatched drones and helicopters to monitor the air quality and the extent of the damage.

The government urged the public to stay away from the scene and follow official information.

This was the fourth major explosion within ten days. Earlier last month, at least 31 people were killed following ripped through a restaurant in the north-western Chinese city of Yinchuan.

Due to lax safety standards and poor regulation, China has a history of industrial accidents, especially in the chemical sector.

In March 2019, a massive explosion at a chemical plant in the eastern province of Jiangsu killed 78 people and injured hundreds more.
