Tehran (IP) - Tehran Mayor and his Austrian counterpart from Vienna Michael Ludwig stressed the need for transferring experiences of the two countries in battling the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Iran Press/Iran News: In a video call with the mayor of Vienna, Austria's capital, on Wednesday, Tehran Mayor Pirouz Hanachi referred to the US sanctions against the Iranian people, saying: "Despite all the difficulties, the Iranian authorities and people were able to provide huge quantities of masks and sanitary equipment to prevent the spread of coronavirus."

Pointing to the screening of 72 million people with the cooperation of the Iranian Ministry of Health, Pirouz Hanachi added: "With the measures taken in the country, the number of coronavirus cases has decreased and in some parts of the country the situation is normalizing." 

Hanachi also invited his Austrian counterpart to visit Tehran.

Michael Ludwig stressed that mayors of metropolitan cities should be in touch regardless of political issues. 

Vienna mayor praised the efforts made by Iran in fighting against the coronavirus, adding: "Numerous measures taken in Iran to curb the coronavirus outbreak have reduced death toll and number of patients." 

Earlier, Tehran mayor had held online talks with mayors of London, Rome, Istanbul, Ankara, Seoul, and Muscat.
