Tehran (IP) - Iran's Health Ministry Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour referred to the unilateral sanctions imposed by the US against the Iranian nation, saying, "The World witnesses US cruelty."

Iran Press/Iran News: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press via video-conferencing on Monday 23 March, Kianoosh Jahanpour remarked that Iran is a country engulfed by the US cruel sanctions. 

He referred to the great role of the country's medical capacities, pointing to the Pasteur Institute of Iran as one of the major institutes for countering and containing the spread of COVID-19. "Over 1,200 tests have been daily done in the Pasteur Institute, indicating its significance in the region and even the world," he added. 

The Spokesman also stated that many labs and medical companies are producing kits and related materials to diagnose COVID-19 under Pasteur Institute's supervision.

Kianoosh Jahanpour also referred to the sanctions, saying: "The US has imposed harsh medical sanctions on Iranian people. The world witnesses US cruelty, however; Iran and Iranian nation won't give up."

In the outset of the presser, Mr. Jahanpour released the latest data on the Coronavirus for the past 24 hours.

Jahanpour said that  8,376 people out of a total of 23,049 infected by the coronavirus have recovered while 1,812 have unfortunately succumbed to death. Of this number 127 have died only in the past 24 hours.

According to relevant officials, over 35 million people in the country have so far been screened to detect Coronavirus infected patients.
