Kabul (IP)- A Taliban spokesman in a tweet on Friday denied the group's involvement in the attack on a memorial ceremony for the former leader of the Party of Islamic Unity of Afghanistan in the capital, Kabul.

Iran PressAsia: Armed attackers at 11:20 am, local time, attacked the memorial ceremony of Abdul Ali Mazari, the late leader of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, using light and heavy weapons.

The Afghan Interior Ministry announced the transfer of eighteen injured people to hospital but did not release the casualty figures.

Initial reports said at least 18 people were injured, but that number was likely to rise, said Nasrat Rahimi, an Interior Ministry spokesman.

“All of the wounded are civilians,” Rahimi said.

Former President Hamid Karzai, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Mohammad Mohaqiq and Supreme Peace Council President Mohammad Karim Khalili were present at the event when the attack took place, but none of them were harmed.

The anniversary of the martyrdom of Abdul Ali Mazari, the leader of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, was also targeted last year by attackers and ISIS terrorist group accepted responsibility for that attack.
