Mikhail Mishustin appointed as new Russian Prime Minister

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has appointed the country's tax service chief, Mikhail Mishustin, as new prime minister.

Iran PressEurope: It comes after Dmitri Medvedev resigned in a surprise move earlier on Wednesday, Kremlin announced.

Duma, Russia’s lower parliament, is expected to approve the appointment on Thursday.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin thanked Medvedev — who has been offered a new position as vice-chairman of the Security Council — for his service.

Russia’s prime minister Dmitry Medvedev unexpectedly submitted both his and his government’s resignation on Wednesday.

Medvedev will now serve as deputy of the National Security Council, a newly created position. 207/211
