Iranian Secretary of Supreme Security Council Ali Shamkhani

Iranian Secretary of Supreme Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said the protraction of terrorism and efforts to prolong insecurity in Afghanistan by certain regional and extra-regional countries are the main challenges threatening its peace and security.

Iran PressIran news: He made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Minister of State Security of the People's Republic of China Chen Wenqing on Tuesday saying Tehran and Beijing can take constructive measures to increase security and stability in the region.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Chen arrived in Tehran to take part in The 2nd Round of Regional Security Dialogue which will discuss the situation in Afghanistan, neighboring Iran and China.

Shamkhani welcomed all-out ties between Tehran and Beijing and said, security agencies in Iran and China can play a key role in implementing bilateral political, economic and defense agreements.

The Chinese minister, for his part, said cooperation and exchange of views between Chinese and Iranian officials can speed up the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries' presidents.

He hailed Iran's initiative in hosting the Regional Security Dialogue.

The 2nd Round of Regional Security Dialogue themed on Afghanistan will open in Tehran on Wednesday by security officials from Iran, Russia, China, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
