Iran Press/ Middle East: Despite ISIL' defeat in Iraq, some of the terrorist group's members are still in the country, committing acts of terrorism sporadically, Iran Press reported.

Backed by the US and its allies, ISIL (also known as Daesh terrorists) receives substantial military and financial support from the United States. ISIL terrorists attacked Iraq in 2014, occupying vast swathes of the country's north and west, committing myriads of crimes.

In the wake of the invasion, the Iraqi government called for help and support and Iran dispatched military advisers to the country at the official invitation of Baghdad.

With ISIL terrorists taking over some Iraqi cities in 2014, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) or Hashd ul-Shabi, was formed on the fatwa of top Iraqi religious authority and source of emulation Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali al-Sistani, and came under the command of the country's armed forces in 2016 with the Iraqi parliament's approval.
