Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran

Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) on concreting ceremony of the second unit of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant noted that Iran refuses to accept the JCPOA to be a one-way road.

Iran Press/Iran News: On his arrival in Bushehr, Ali Akbar Salehi said in an interview with the IRIB news agency, "We have not started to violate the commitments, they have not fulfilled their obligations, and the Islamic Republic cannot accept that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is considered to be a one-way road. Iran operates only within the framework of its national interests."

The Vice President stated that the day after the JCPOA was signed, we were able to conclude a deal with the Russians on the construction of two new power plants - units two and three of Bushehr power plant, each capable of producing 1057 MW of electricity.

Salehi added, "Today, the concreting operation of the second unit of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant begins symbolically, as the work had already started and the ceremony was delayed due to the decease of Dr. Ahmadian (Deputy Head of Atomic Energy Organization and Head of Atomic Energy Production and Development Company), but the work went on.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization said, "The aforementioned unit will be built and equipped within ten years within the framework of the Nuclear Safety Regulations. Now, after excavation and land consolidation, reactor concreting operations will begin."

Salehi added, "Since 201,6 when we concluded the contract and paid the first installment, the workshop activities started. Nearly three million cubic meters have been excavated so far, and with extensive facilities mobilized over the past two years, major action has been taken.

He thanked the Iranian contractors and the Russian contractor, saying, "We hope that today we will see concreting, we will witness the construction of the main building of Reactor 2 and then start the construction of Reactor 3 at another stage."

Elsewhere, the VP said there are now 15 new centrifuges operating in Natanz. This made them astonished, and it was unbelievable to them because they thought we didn't have the capacity. This demonstrates the capability of the AEOI and the high interest of its staff in peaceful nuclear activities.

He added, "In exchange for accepting a series of restrictions, sanctions were to be lifted; they did not lift sanctions, and we no longer have any restrictions. Six UN Security Council resolutions have been abandoned through the JCPOA, and we hope the arms sanctions will be lifted by next October."
