Tehran (IP) - Iran's Judiciary Spokesman has said an Iranian national, a university professor, who has been imprisoned in the US, is not physically well and is suffering in prison.

Iran Press/ Iran news: Answering a question by Iran Press reporter at a press conference on Tuesday, Gholam Hussein Esmaeili called upon US authorities to release an Iranian stem cell researcher and haematology professor, Dr. Masoud Soleimani who has now spent just over a year in a US prison, without any charges being brought against him, and without a proper trial.

The Judiciary spokesman said that Iranian citizen who is imprisoned in the US, is not in a good physical condition, and US authorities must treat him according to international laws and conventions.

Highlighting America's illegal action in arresting and imprisoning the Iranian scientist Masoud Soleimani, Esmaeili said: "Dr. Soleimani is not physically well and he is suffering in prison. I hope the US treats the detainee based on international rules and regulations."

The Judiciary spokesman added: "A trilateral agreement to pursue the case of Dr. Soleimani by the foreign ministry, the supreme national security council, and the judiciary has been sealed. We are seriously following up the case of the Iranian professor, and are hoping for positive results."

In further remarks, Esmaeili said there is no convincing legal case against the Iranian professor, who had committed no wrongdoing or crime, and urged US authorities to release Professor Soleimani immediately and allow him to return home to his family in Iran. The Judiciary spokesman also described the imprisonment of Dr. Soleimani as truly 'a travesty of justice'.
