The Managing Director of Sistan and Baluchestan province’s Public Relations Department has said five passengers were killed and 35 were injured when the Zahedan-Tehran train derailed in the southeastern province of Iran.

Iran Press/Iran News: The managing director of public relations in Sistan and Baluchestan province, Javad Salarzehi said on Wednesday that the train was passing through the Shuru region in the Kurin district in the southeastern province of Iran.

"Unfortunately, 35 passengers were injured in the accident," he said according to an Iran Press report.

Salarzehi added that rescue teams were dispatched to the area immediately after the derailment.

Salarzehi also said that the injured are being treated and transferred to Zahedan medical centers.

The Shuru is an area prone to windblown sand, which sometimes pulls the train off the rails. 101/211/216
