Ceremony for World Peace Day and Climate Action for peace held at Sacred Defence Museum in Tehran

Ceremony for honoring 'World Peace Day' renamed this year as 'Climate Action for peace' was held on Saturday afternoon, 21 September at 'Sacred Defence Museum', in Tehran.

Iran Press/Iran news: The ceremony was attended by Pirouz Hanachi, the mayor of Tehran, Hojjatollah Ayoubi, acting Secretary-General of the Iranian National Commission for UNESCO, and various foreign guests and dignitaries from different countries.

According to Iran Press, in a statement, Iran's foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif apologized for his absence because he has traveled to New York to attend the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting. In the statement, Zarif said the need for peace is something instinctive and the aim of peace is not just merely avoidance or absence of war.

"By withdrawing from the nuclear deal, JCPOA, or being unilateralist, the US threatens peace. Iran has always proved its integral role in fighting terrorism" he said in the statement.

Also attending the ceremony was Hojjatollah Ayoubi who said: "Iran has never sought war or tension, war is something unusual for us; but since the discovery of oil, we have been subjected to war and we have been a victim of war."

"In the Western world, peace is something unusual, the war in the Western world is usual and common," he said, adding: "Regardless of differences in how we look and the color of our skin, we believe that unity and solidarity are integral. Today the world feels that its peace is under threat."

Established in 1981 by a unanimous resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the International Day of Peace (Peace Day) is observed around the world each year on 21 September.

It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. 101/212/ 211
