The ex-president of Afghanistan Hamed Karzai, has said 17 years of insecurity in Afghanistan, and the 17-year presence of US military forces in the country, means America has failed in Afghanistan.

Iran Press/Asia: 17 years of insecurity in Afghanistan despite the presence of foreign troops means the US has failed, because they came to Afghanistan to bring peace and security to the country, but they just bombarded innocent people, and failed to establish peace and security, Hamed Karzai said.

Referring to the importance of peace negotiations in Afghanistan, he noted that no peace will be maintained without taking into account the necessity of negotiations among the Afghan groups as well as a mutual understanding with neighboring countries, especially with Iran, Iran Press reported.

"Iran is Afghanistan's arm of peace, and I ask Iran to try to help out and realize peace negotiations in Afghanistan", Karzai said.

Karzai referred to 17 years of US military involvement and presence in his country and asserted that he has always opposed  US policies, because their words and actions have never matched, and have never been the same.

The US and its allies invaded Afghanistan under the guise of the war on terror in 2001. While the invasion ended the Taliban's rule in the country, it has failed to eliminate the militant group.

A new study, conducted by Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies, shows that almost 100,000 people have been killed and the same number have been wounded in Afghanistan since the US invasion of 2001. 101/211/215
