Tehran and many other provincial capitals in Iran on Friday marked the commemoration of martyrdom of top officials in a 1981 terrorist attack.

 Iran Press/Iran news: Countrywide ceremonies were held in Iran to pay tribute to 73 ranking officials who were killed in a terrorist bomb attack carried out by Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO or MEK) terrorists 38 years ago, Iran Press reported.

On 28 June 1981 – 7th of Tir 1360 in the Iranian calendar year – a powerful bomb blast at the headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran Political Party in Tehran, martyred the Head of Iran's Judiciary, Ayatollah Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti, and 72 other high-ranking officials who were attending a meeting at the time.

Top officials martyred in the terrorist bomb attack included Chief Justice Ayatollah Mohammad Hosseini Beheshti, as well as four cabinet ministers, 27 members of Parliament (Majlis) and several other senior government officials.

It was revealed later that the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO), listed as a terrorist organisation by much of the international community, was behind the terrorist blast.    208/211/101
