The Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy commission has stressed that the latest batch of US sanctions against Iran, just like previous ones, are useless.

Iran Press/Iran news:The Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy commission, Mojtaba Zolnour, has said America's latest sanctions against Iran are totally useless, and that there is no reason for America to sanction the foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Zolnour added: "Zarif is certainly not a terrorist or criminal to be put under sanctions. There is no legal basis for sanctioning him, but perhaps the Americans have realised how useless their sanctions are, and have resorted to this as an act of desperation, or perhaps they hope to influence Iran's diplomacy in this way."

Zolnour stressed that Washington's attempt to immobilise Iran's chief diplomat, by sanctioning Zarif, is outrageous, illegal, unorthodox and unlikely to work, since according to International law the United States cannot curtail Iran's diplomacy or stop Iranian diplomats from travelling to other countries.

Iran's diplomacy more active than ever before

Zolnour pointedly added: "Trump thought that by withdrawing from the nuclear deal, European countries would follow suit, but that certainly did not happen. Wherever US officials and diplomats travel to, Iranian diplomats make a point of travelling to that country and undoing and countering US actions and diplomacy. This has been very effective up to now. In fact, Iran's diplomacy is now more active than ever before, and has added to America's woes."

The Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy commission added that America's useless sanctions are simply a reaction to the shooting down of an American spy drone over southern Iran, and is an attempt to sooth the pain America felt after its surveillance drone was shot down by Iran's armed forces.

Many analysts believe the impact of the fresh US sanctions on an Iran already sanctioned would be very limited. According to experts, the newly announced sanctions against Tehran are mainly symbolic.  101/211
