Sudan military council urges AU, Ethiopia joint act for political transition

The Sudani ruling military council urges African Union and Ethiopia to take a joint plan for political transition in the crisis-hit Sudan.

Iran Press/Africa: The military council, however, has rejected Ethiopia's initiative of a civilian-majority governing council.

Sudanese protesters have already said they have accepted the creation of a civilian-majority governing body for a political transition in Sudan as proposed by an Ethiopian envoy.

The Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the opposition coalition have been wrangling for weeks over what form Sudan's transitional government should take after the military deposed long-time President Omar al-Bashir on April 11.

On Sunday, Shams al-Din Kabashi, spokesman for TMC, said the council rejected the Ethiopian initiative but had agreed in principle to the AU's plan.

Details of the AU proposal were not immediately known. 215/213
