German Chancellor Angela Merkel

German Chancellor said the international community must seek a political solution on Iran.

Iran Press/Europe: Angela Merkel comments delivered on Saturday in Brussels capital city of Belgium and the headquarters of the European Union where she arrived to attend a European Union leaders summit.

German Chancellor's comments were a reaction to US President Donald Trump who said he had aborted a military strike to retaliate against Tehran’s downing of a US drone.

Merkel speaking at an annual gathering of Protestant churches, also said the Iran issue would be discussed at next week’s meeting of leaders of the Group of 20 leading economies in Japan, (G20) at least at a bilateral level, Reuters reported.

"There has to be a political solution on Iran and that is what we are working on," Merkel said.

US President Donald Trump rhetoric increased when the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps shot down a US spy drone, identified as RQ-4 Global Hawk on Thursday morning, when it entered Iran's airspace in southern coastal Hormozgan province.

The IRGC had announced in a statement early Thursday that the US-made Global Hawk surveillance drone was brought down by its Air Force near Kouh-e-Mobarak region in the southern district of Jask after the aircraft violated Iran's airspace. 101/211/205
