Tehran (IP) - The spokesman for the Iranian Parliament's Energy Commission has said the recent decision by American officials to impose sanctions on Iranian petrochemicals is hostile and aggressive.

Iran press/Iran news: The spokesman for the Iranian Parliament's Energy Commission Asadollah Gharehkhani in an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday said that in the wake of the US hostility against Iran, after its withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) such as it's effort to reduce Iran's oil exports to zero and branding of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) as a foreign terrorist organization, it is to be expected that the US would take such hostile action against Iran, against Iran's Persian Gulf Holding and petrochemicals sector.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran possesses a highly developed petrochemicals industry with 300 types of petrochemical products which indicates a diversified petrochemicals market, and certainly the enemies in this regard will not succeed in their aims.

He also stated that the number of hard currencies earned through petrochemical exports for the country last year continued in this Solar year too and that necessary measures had been taken in this regard.

The United States targeted Iran’s petrochemical industry in new sanctions imposed, including the country’s largest petrochemical holding group.

The sanctions target Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) for allegedly providing financial support to the economic arm of the IRGC, Iran’s elite military unit in charge of Iran’s ballistic missile and civilian nuclear program, US Treasury Department said on Friday according to a Reuters report.
