UN to provide $ 5 million to help Iran flood victims

UNFPA Iran Representative announced that about $5 million has been provided to help flood victims in Iran.

Iran Press/Iran news: Meeting with Khuzestan province governor Gholamreza Shariati, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Leila Joudane said that since the flood crisis in Iran, in cooperation with the international community, the UN has had a good interaction with Iran to help the flood people and now about $5 million has been provided to help flood-stricken areas reconstruction.

Noting that the UN is standing beside the floodgates of Iran, especially Khuzestan, she added that the UN and international organizations have made every effort to attract humanitarian aids from different countries, Iran Press reported.

Joudane stated that the UN and international organizations have focused on the four Iranian provinces of Golestan (northern Iran), Lorestan (West Iran), Ilam (West Iran) and Khuzestan to prepare settlement, Health, safety and sanitation for them.

In his turn, Khuzestan governor emphasized on the fair and targeted distribution of relief supplies for the flood victims, saying: "Accommodation cards are provided for flood-hit people to make sure that humanitarian aids reach them precisely."

The heavy rainfall started from March 19 in various parts of Iran has led to rivers flooding which caused the loss of 76 people in Iran and lots of financial losses.

Currently, the country's authorities and the Iranian military are presented in the flood-hit areas to examine the situation and planning to help flood-affected areas.

Emergency resettlement of flood victims has started since the beginning of the flood and relief operation is still underway using the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the army and the Basij facilities.

Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Secretary-General said that sending aid to flood-hit areas was impossible because of the sanctions imposed by the US. 208/104
