White House official said that the US is planning to impose further sanctions on Iran "very soon", as Tehran announced it was scaling back some curbs to its nuclear program

Iran Press/America: Tim Morrison, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Weapons of Mass Destruction and Biodefense, told a conference on Wednesday that Washington was not ‘done’ with imposing sanctions on Iran.

“Expect more sanctions soon. Very soon,” he said according to Reuters.

Earlier in the day, Tehran said that it had suspended some of its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Iran gave Europe 60 days to ensure that its interests are protected. Tehran pledged to return to full compliance if the other parties to the nuclear deal were able to help solve problems caused by US sanctions.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States will wait to see if Iran follows through on threats to limit its compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal before deciding how to react.

Speaking in London with British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, Pompeo claimed Iran's threat to resume higher enrichment of uranium in 60 days appeared aspirational and was vague on whether it would follow through. 101/205
