Khuzestan (IP) - The meeting of the coordination council for crisis management in Khuzestan province was convened in Ahvaz on Saturday night attended by President Hassan Rouhani, a number of ministers accompanying president Rouhani on his trip, and a number of local officials from Khuzestan province.

Iran Press/Iran news: The most important topics of discussion at the meeting were provision of temporary accommodation for flood-hit people of Khuzestan, return of displaced people to their homes, an estimate of the total cost of flood damage in Khuzestan province, and methods of recompense and payment of financial assistance to flood victims.

According to an Iran Press report, a number of parliamentarians representing Khuzestan province in the Majlis were also present at this meeting.

Commenting on the situation in Khuzestan, President Rouhani said hopefully, in the coming days, the floodwaters will subside and gradually life will return to normal and living conditions will improve, with farmers being able to resume their agricultural activities.

In further comments, President Rouhani said Khuzestan is a large province with Ahvaz a major important city in Iran. He pointedly added, "Iran's defense crucially depends on Khuzestan province."

Rouhani said: "It was inspirational to see all the people in Ahvaz working together to prevent floodwaters from entering the city. It inspired the whole nation."  103/211
