Mazandaran (IP) - Catching bony fish from the Caspian Sea has begun these days in Mazandaran Province's coasts, in northern Iran, since the beginning of winter.

Iran PressIran news: 4,200 fishermen are working on the Caspian coasts to catch mullet, Caspian kutum, and common carp, the species living in the sea.

In the first month of winter, the fishermen focus on catching mullets, and in the second month, they go to catch Caspian kutums.

The Chairman of Mazandaran's Fisheries Ghasem Karimzadeh says that since the beginning of the fishing season about 1,180 tons of fish have been caught, which is 30 percent more than the previous year. 

He says the fishies caught so far are worth 230 billion tomans, of which 57 percent is mullet and 27 percent is common carp.  

The Caspian Sea is both one of the richest fish reservoirs in the world and one of the tourist attractions of Iran, especially in spring and summer.
