Manama (IP) - With the arrival of Muharram month, the people of Bahrain take to the streets and allies at nights during the first 10 days of Muharram and perform mourning rituals to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS).

Iran Press/West Asia: The people, especially the youths, set up mourning groups every night in Diraz village, west of Manama, and beat their chests in commemoration of Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom.

The mourning rituals also are held in other parts of Bahrain including Karzakan, al-Sanabis, al-koura, and al-Deir.

Imam Hussein, the third Imam of Shia Islam, was martyred along with his family and companions during the Battle of Karbala in the 61st year after the migration of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca to Medina. The Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, is a day of profound significance for Shia Muslims worldwide, as it commemorates this tragic event.
