U.S. undermined diplomacy and violated international law with its strike amid ongoing nuclear talks, dropping Iran's trust below zero, stated Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Why it matters:

The U.S. and Israel's military strikes on Iran during a period of active diplomacy has  raised doubts over the credibility of Western states’ commitment to negotiation, especially as Iran signals legal and media mobilization in response.

What he’s saying:

Esmail Baghaei, Spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, condemned the recent U.S. attack as a “disgraceful and illegal act” that occurred in the midst of diplomatic negotiations, stating that the enemy “failed to stand against the logic of dialogue and interaction.”

Baghaei said: “It is now evident to all that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a proponent of dialogue and diplomacy."

He said that no legal, ethical, or political justification exists for the attack, calling it a “clear example of aggression” under the UN Charter.

Key points:

  • Esmail Baghaei declared the attacks as proof that Washington cannot be relied upon in diplomatic processes.
  • Iran is documenting casualties, including the deaths of four pregnant women, and submitting detailed reports to international bodies while calling on media figures to share Iran’s narrative globally.

Flashback:

On June 13, amid ongoing nuclear talks, Israel launched airstrikes targeting Iranian sites, followed shortly by a U.S. attack, despite Iran’s continued demonstration of goodwill and transparency at the diplomatic table. At the time, no credible intelligence indicated that Iran was pursuing nuclear weapons.

The attacks resulted in the martyrdom of hundreds of Iranian civilians, scientists, and senior commanders, further escalating tensions and fueling outrage across the country.
