Iran Press/ Iran news: The embassy emphasized that the resumption of consular services demonstrates the continuation of support for Azerbaijani citizens and other individuals requiring assistance.
Earlier this year, in a July statement, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared that following bilateral negotiations, the embassy in Tehran had reopened in a new location on July 15, 2024. The current ambassador and diplomatic staff have since returned to Iran, marking a significant step in restoring normal operations.
The Ministry also acknowledged Iran’s efforts in ensuring the security of the embassy's new premises. Tehran has reportedly implemented measures aligned with its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, guaranteeing the safety and protection of foreign missions.
This development follows a tumultuous period in diplomatic relations between the two nations. Azerbaijan temporarily closed its embassy in Tehran after an armed assailant attacked the mission on January 27, 2023, prompting heightened concerns over safety and security.
With the resumption of both diplomatic and consular activities, the renewed cooperation reflects progress in stabilizing ties between Azerbaijan and Iran.
